Which live edge top styles are available?
Rustic Trades offers four primary approaches: a supplemented live edge added to a seamless slab, a bookmatched or multi-flitch top joined from sections of the same tree, a single full-width slab, and an epoxy river top created by turning the natural edges inward. What is the difference between supplemented, bookmatched, and full-width?
Supplemented construction adds a live edge flitch to a seamless slab and is typically the most economical option. Bookmatched or multi-flitch tops join two or three related sections to create mirrored grain. A full-width table uses one slab spanning the final width, preserving uninterrupted grain and the most natural single-slab character.
How thick are live edge table tops?
Thickness depends on the top style and slab. Supplemented tops are generally about 1.625–1.75 inches thick, bookmatched and epoxy-river tops about 1.75–2.25 inches, and full-width slabs about 1.75–2.5 inches. Final dimensions vary with the individual material.
Which hardwoods work well for live edge tables?
American black walnut is the most popular choice, while white oak, maple, Parota, and monkeypod offer different grain, color, and natural-edge character. Monkeypod can also be a useful option for select indoor and outdoor applications.
